Wedding Flowers - The 7 Most Popular Forms For Bridal Bouquets
When you choose the shape for your bridal bouquet, you'll want to make sure that it blends with your wedding theme. For example, a heart shaped bouquet would clash with a modern and minimalist wedding where a cascade shaped bouquet would look quite lovely. You'll also want to keep in mind the level of formality of your wedding when you choose the shape for your bouquet. Loose organic bouquets are best suited for garden and beach weddings while pageant bouquets are ideal for formal affairs.
Your bridal bouquet should also flatter the look of your wedding gown. With the right shape, your wedding flowers will lend a beautiful touch to your wedding ceremony and be your best bridal accessory. Large ballgown silhouettes will go well with ornate arrangements like the cascade shape. Simpler gown silhouettes like a classic A-line will work better with simpler bouquets in a round or loose form.
No matter what your wedding theme is, you'll find that there's a bouquet shape that's just right for you. If you're familiar with the 7 most popular bridal bouquet shapes, once you choose your wedding florist, you'll easily be able to talk to her about the type of bouquet you want.
Read on to discover the 7 most popular wedding flower shapes and find which one is right for your bridal bouquet.
Round
Round bouquets are the most popular wedding flower choice for brides. Round bouquets are, as the name implies, bouquets with flowers arranged in a round or globe shape. Though the round shape is a very traditional look for wedding flowers, modern brides appreciate its versatility. Simple and elegant, round bridal bouquets are appropriate for both formal and casual weddings.
Crescent
A dramatic shape that consists of flowers and greenery arched from the center and then tapered at the ends, the crescent shape is best suited for formal weddings. Because of the natural way that the flowers seem to fall around your hands, the crescent shape is favored by many brides. Crescent bouquets can be created with a symmetrical look or they can be created asymmetrically by arranging flowers in a graduated fashion for a more contemporary look.
Pageant
Pageant shaped bouquets are characterized by long stems arranged in a sweeping fashion so that the bouquet can fit nicely into a bride's arm. Named for the way that a beauty queen carries her bouquet, the pageant shape can be used for formal or informal weddings. For casual weddings, the pageant shape should be created loosely to lend an organic and wispy look to the bridal bouquet.
Cascade
Also known as a waterfall, the cascade shape features great amounts of flowers at the base of the bouquet that slowly taper along the length of the bouquet. The Cascade shape gives the appearance of flowers spilling over the edge of the bridal bouquet. Sophisticated and elegant, bridal bouquets done in the cascade shape can be used for formal or casual weddings.
Heart
Because the heart is the symbol of love, a heart shaped bridal bouquet is ideal if you want your wedding flowers to have a romantic quality. Arranged in a dense heart shape, heart bouquets add a girlish sweetness to your wedding flowers. If you're carrying a heart shaped bouquet, you'll only want to select one or two different flowers to include so the shape of your bridal bouquet is clearly discernable.
Loose
Also known as organic or hand-tied, loose flower arrangements are the epitome of casual elegance. Loose bridal bouquets are characterized by the stems of flowers and greenery loosely tied together by wire or ribbon. Bridal bouquets done in a loose style appear unfussy and are perfect for beach weddings and other more casual wedding ceremonies.
Now that you know what's available, you can start thinking about which wedding flower shape is right for you. With so many beautiful options, you'll have no problem in finding a bridal bouquet that will compliment your wedding theme and wedding gown perfectly.

Most Popular Wedding Flowers
The Bouquet
When dealing with the bouquet, there are two things in particular that drive the most popular wedding flowers. The first of these two things is the color of the flower because the vast majority of wedding bouquets involve flowers that are white or off white (i.e. cream) in color. Think about all of the bouquets at all of the weddings that you have been to and you will soon realize this fact to be true. Examples of extremely popular flowers in this category include gardenias, stephanotis, roses, carnations, orchids, lilies and sweet peaks.
In addition to color however, another thing that you must take into account is the scent of the flower. Some wedding bouquets are carried by people that love to have the scent of the flowers whereas in other cases light-headedness or outright allergy might argue against scented bouquets. Flowers that are extremely popular in scented bouquets are gardenias, tuberoses, peonies and stephanotis, so keep those flowers in mind when making the final decision on this front.
The Decorations
In addition to the bouquet that the bride will be carrying, there are also flowers that are going to be around in terms of the decorations. Decorations at weddings quite frequently involve floral arrangements of some kind and because of that making the decisions regarding the flowers in those decorations is absolutely something that you want to make sure that you do. There are not really any most popular choices in terms of decorative flowers because the flowers that people use in the decorations are going to depend on what they are doing with the rest of the decorations that are not flower in form. Colour, texture, shape, size and smell are all aspects of the decorative flowers that will largely be decided by what the other wedding decorations happen to be.
The Reception
At the reception of a typical wedding, there will be flowers in the decorations once again. However, these flower decisions can largely be put aside as being covered by the decisions you made in the previous paragraph, which in turn leaves the flowers that you will be using on the tables. Tables at the reception traditionally have a flower arrangement and a centrepiece, although the two might be combined together depending on the centrepiece design that is used.
When choosing flowers for the tables in a reception, there are many factors that you need to take into account. These are the same factors that you took into account vis-à-vis the bouquet, such as potential allergies that guests might have as well as personal preferences of your guests in terms of scents. While some people jump at the thought of scented flowers, other people find them extremely irritating and that is exactly why you need to spend time thinking about the flowers in the wedding before the final decisions are made.

April Fools Day Wedding
I never asked Sandra if she really was getting married today or if it was an April Fools! The weather was typical for April - rainy but I think it managed to stay dry for them to walk from the Town Hall to the Tennis Club.
I did the flowers for Sandra's Son last year so it was a great pleasure to be able to do hers now.

Best Wedding Flowers
Classic weddings commonly use roses for a very obvious reason - its wide variation. Roses are popular for its different colors, each is utilized by decorators and designers because of its high compatibility to any other kinds of flowers. Roses are used in bouquets. They can also be used to accessorize the table settings by having them combined with some fillers or some other compatible flowers. Other common application of roses is seen on wrist corsages, boutonnieres, flower girl pomanders, bridesmaids bouquets, and even for the wreath type settings. Red roses signifies passionate love. Once it is mixed with some white roses, the arrangement would then signifies unity. White roses, on the other hand, signifies purity.
Calla lilies create a stylish tone. The term "calla" means "regal". In fact, images of calla are taken as portrait on wedding cakes, wedding cards, and wedding invitations. Calla lilies have grown originally in white but after the hybrids, they turn out to be more beautiful in a multiple selection of colors. Another common wedding flower is the lily. Christians opted to use white lilies on their wedding because it symbolizes purity. Ancient Chinese has great respect for the lilies.
Orchids are also used in a wedding. These flowers represent a social status and wealth. It is true that orchids can look so delicate and vulnerable, but ironic to that is their endurance wherein they can sustain and preserve their beauty even if there is no water. Orchids were widely recognized because of their excellent beauty. They come in different shapes, colors, forms, and even on the scent - not to mention that each kind of orchids might also vary in price. For most wedding settings, orchids are mixed in the arrangement. Dendrobiumand and Cymbidium are two popular orchids used in a wedding and they can really make an elegant accessory for dinner tables.
The hydrangeas is another popular wedding flower, coming next to the roses. Hydrangeas signifies preservation or perseverance. You should not worry about the availability of these flowers because they continue to bloom the entire year. However, one should consider its sensitivity. Hydrangeas are delicate in nature, thus more care is required. The choice of wedding flower should not barely lie on the physical beauty, size, and color. Instead, one must also put into consideration the scent and the symbolism that it brings. In short, ensure a total package and it will surely make the tone and atmosphere of the celebration really memorable.
